We tried to get a trip organized several times in the
early summer, but due to work conflicts, we finally were able to get away in
October. As the Rovers were now going to college, university or starting
full time jobs, we had decided to disband and this would be our farewell
trip together. For this reason we decided to get former Scouter Les to come
along for old time's sakes, as Les had played
a large role in their Scouting experience. Les's daughter Cassie came
along as she had shared many of our outings in the past and always showed a
great deal of "Scouting Spirit".
The weather was cool and
drizzling when we started, but that didn't dampen our spirits.
The storm that blew through
in the summer left a large number of trees down all along the route.
Shawn and Peter took the
majority of the canoes down and Peter found that the water was very
cool...
But they made it through
with out any further problems.
The water was extremely
high due to all the rain we had in September and October.
We bounced off the large
rock in the center of the last drop, but we made it through unscathed.
Scouter Les on the portage
around the Parresseux Falls.
As you can see, it isn't
the easiest terrain especially when the ground is wet.
This shot shows how much
water is going over the falls
A nice shot of Cassie and
the falls as a backdrop.
Shawn and Justin never
missed a chance to "wet a line"
We camped on the west end
of Bouillon Lake and there were a number of large pines blown down all
around the area.
But there was an abundance
of firewood
We had camp set up in no
time
And Shawn and Justin got in
an evening fish and they both did quite well.
Once again as per
tradition, we had our fireworks display.
Next morning was damp and
cool again, but since we only had a short paddle we took our time
We ran the Portage de
Roches Rapids (or as we call it "The Rock Garden" without incident.
Wet and cold, but we would
do it all over in a second.
