We hosted the 2nd Nipissing District Kart Races in 2001 at Marten River
Provincial Park. The year before First Callander Troop developed and
put on the first Kart Races that they held at Champlain Provincial Park near
Mattawa. We had so much fun, we decided that we would do it again.
The weather that weekend was perfect and a good time was enjoyed by all.
First North Bay won the top honors in the speed category, with First
Callander in the runner up position. First Sturgeon Falls won Best
Design and the Scouting Attitude Award for their adaptation and
modification of a pedal car and their great spirit through out the weekend.
A good picture of the starting ramps (2000 Champlain Race). Ferris

The Sturgeon kart (left) against the Ferris kart.
The Ferris kart was definitely quicker out of the gate
We used our Kub Kar lessons and mounted the weight
towards the back of the Kart to aid in acceleration.
You can tell both drivers treat the race very seriously!
Easing in to the pits
We painted our karts black and then accented them with yellow and red
(our Group colours)
Because of the curve in the hill each racer had to run in both lanes
and the total time decided who advanced to the finals.
The action was fast and there were a few "off road excursions". This was the most serious, but the driver walked away bruised pinky
finger.
This was the "Official plans and specifications
sheet handed out to the Troops.
These are the plans that we used to build our 3 karts.
