The Trans Canada Trail at 18000 Kms when completed will be the longest recreational trail in the world. In the year 2000, the Trans Canada Trail Committee implemented a nation-wide Relay in which water from Canada's three oceans was drawn and relayed along the route of the Trail. Over 5,000 Official Carriers were involved in Relay 2000, which began in the Arctic in February and ended in the National Capital Region in September. The Relay made its way through 800 communities and involved well over 350,000 onlookers and participants.

We entered into the lottery to be a water carrier for the Relay 2000 and were very pleased when we were allowed to carry it on one of the relays.  The Relay Group decided that we should do it as a Scouting Partnership and we co-carried with the First North Bay Scouts.  The weather was very hot, but we had a very memorable day!

We met the previous relay Participant a 1/4 mile up the tracks from Memorial Drive Due to the fact that North Bay is a railway town.... They had us move the water flasks by rail car for part of the way.
A group shot of the West Ferris and 1st North Bay Scout groups. We were marched down to the band shell by the Legion Pipe Band We even got to walk with Premier Mike Harris and Mayor Jack Burrows.

The speeches were next and then it was down the Kate Paceway to the next handoff. "Hammin" it up on a fun day!
