TIMBER LAKE SCOUT CAMP HISTORY
LOCATION: Land Use Permit #MRT 10250 Butler Township
1954
Funding from the Ferris Lions Club was donated to build the cabin for the sole use of Ferris Scouting and area scouting. Building put up by Scout Leaders, parents and Lions Club members.
1958
Survey done August 9 1958 and issued October 29 1958 on behalf of the applicant “1st Ferris Group Committee of the Boy Scouts Association” By G. Lackstrum, Ontario Land Surveyor
1959
Original “License of Occupation #7614” issued approximately 1959 to Mr. C. W. Hicks and Mr. W. M. Hicks “1st Ferris Group Committee of the Boy Scouts Association”
1980
Donations from the Air Base and the Ferris Lions club make further donations to repair vandalism damage to Cabin that included the interior and the windows.
1990
License of Occupation #7614 cancelled and Land Use Permit #43-362 was issued to First Ferris Boy Scout Committee on December 31 1990.
1992 to 1998
Separate room built inside and bunk beds added, the older wood stoves were replaced with 1 air tight stove with insulated chimney.
Kitchen cupboards from the Ferris Legion installed with new sink. Propane lights added.
1999
Ministry of Natural resources offers to sell property to 1St Ferris Scouts Group Committee for the market value of $9000.00 plus the $630.00 GST. After much discussion and thought the Group Committee decides not to pursue the purchase, but continue on in the original lease agreement.
2002
New roof installed with donations from Cashway Builders and volunteer help.
2004
New front deck and door installed by Les, Mike and friends.
2006
The new bridge is completed by Mike and friends. It is built with railway rails and wood rot should not be an issue for years. The deck is finished complete with a roof over it.
