WELCOME TO BEAVERS!
Thank you for choosing the Scouts Canada Beaver Program for your child. We’re sure that you and your child will have lots of fun and excitement participating in our program conducted by carefully selected and trained leaders.
The Beaver Program is designed for children ages 5 to 7. Brand new beavers joining the group are known as “kits” and will later become “Eager Beavers” after a special ceremony called the “Investiture”. This ceremony occurs once the kit learns the Beaver Promise, Law and Motto.
The
age of the Beaver is recognized by his or her tail colour. Five year olds have
a brown tail, six year olds have a blue tail and seven year olds have a white
tail. The white tail will get a special “magic light” strip added to the tail
during the year to signify that they will be “swimming up” to the cub program at
the end of the scouting year. These tails are usually given at the beginning of
the program year.

We ask for parents to bring their Beavers to meetings no earlier than 6:25pm. The meetings will last for one hour and parents should pick up their Beavers no later than 7:30pm. We ask that Beavers bring $1 each week for dues which is used to craft supplies and miscellaneous items for our Beavers.

WE NEED YOUR HELP
In order to run an exciting and interesting program for the youth we need adult volunteers who are committed to helping our youth. Scouts Canada regulations require we have at least one adult for every 5 youth in the colony and should be at least 1 extra adult to cover if needed. As we only have one leader at this time we will not be able to start up the colony without your help. Please consider our youth and volunteer your time.
ACTIVITIES AND IMPORTANT NOTES
Some meetings will be held indoors at Gateway, known as the “pond”. Other meetings will be held outside, weather permitting. We will also be planning outings and hikes in our community and may request parents to transport their child to location, or request parents to attend for extra supervision. Your assistance will be appreciated.
YOUR CHILD
It has been said that raising a child is a community effort. In this
technological age, we need programs like Beavers to ensure that our children are
exposed to many fundamentally important lessons in life.. such as learning to
appreciate and respect the natural world we live in, learning how to get along
with others and work as team, learning that there are things much bigger than
the Self. Many of the lessons that they learn even at this young age will shape
them forever.
We have volunteered our time for your children because we recognize the good in this program and besides that, it is a lot of fun. For parents with children in the program, it is a fantastic way to bond with their child—they will remember your participation always.
We will need help from parents for any outings or camps that will take place this year. We will also need more Scouters to join our group, as we require one leader for every five Beavers. Becoming a leader is easy to do, and is fun and little effort when we all work together as a team. Please contact us for more information.
