George Fowler

George Wayne Fowler was born June 11, 1935, to George and Lois Fowler in Becham County, Oklahoma, and passed away in Plano, Texas, January 16, 2018.

He was a 1954 graduate of Brinkman High School. George met his wife of over 50 years, Mary Lou Carpenter, at a high school basketball game and they married while attending college at Southwestern Oklahoma State University where they both graduated with degrees in education, George completing his Master’s in education. He then enlisted in the 45th Infantry Division, Oklahoma National Guard where he served for 13 years leaving with the rank of Captain. In 1958 he began his career with Tulsa Public Schools where he served in a variety of roles: as teacher at John Marshall Elementary; as teacher and Dean at Edison Jr.High; as Assistant Principal at Wright Jr. High; as Assistant Administrative Director for secondary education at the Education Service Center; and Principalships at Lewis and Clark Jr. High, Mason, Central, and Hale High Schools.

He is survived by: his two sons, Jayme Fowler of Tulsa and his wife, Sandy; and Kent Fowler of Plano, TX, and his wife, Kim, and their son and George’s only grandchild, Jackson; his brothers, Pat Fowler and his wife, Catherine, of Frisco, TX; and Pete Fowler and his wife, Karen, of Azle, TX. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou.

He will be greatly missed by the Tulsa community where he spent his adult life, especially those at Parkview Baptist Church, TU sports, and many others too numerous to mention whose lives have been touched by his leadership and steady hand.

Services will be held Saturday, February 3, at 2 p.m. at Parkview Baptist Church, 5805 S. Sheridan Rd., Tulsa, OK 74145.
